The Ottawa Charge are headed back to the Walter Cup Final.
Michela Cava ended Sunday’s marathon Game 4 at 1:12 of the second overtime, redirecting a Katerina Mrazova shot past Aerin Frankel for a 4-3 win over the Boston Fleet at Canadian Tire Centre. Ottawa took the best-of-five semifinal series 3-1 and punched its ticket to a second straight league final.
Cava picked the perfect moment to score her biggest goal in an Ottawa sweater.
Watch the highlights here:
Boston dropped the opener but had no answer after that, losing three in a row for the first time all season. Sarah Wozniewicz, Rebecca Leslie and Brooke Hobson also scored for Ottawa. Gwyneth Philips made 43 saves to keep the home crowd in it through 80-plus minutes of hockey.
The Fleet got goals from Shay Maloney, Megan Keller and Sophie Shirley. Frankel turned aside 29 of 33 shots on the other end. Boston had a chance to bury the game in 2OT on a Brianne Jenner penalty, but the power play came up empty.
Cava’s redirect off Mrazova found just enough net to send the building into a frenzy and end Boston’s season.
Ottawa now waits on the winner of Montreal Victoire vs. Minnesota Frost, which goes to a Game 5 on Monday.
The Charge’s last trip to the Walter Cup Final ended in a loss to those same Frost. A rematch would be a chance at revenge. A Montreal series would mean an all-Canadian final.
The PWHL has been packing buildings all year, and the league will get one more under the lights next round.
