- Dylan Larkin went straight after Greig and both teams piled in
- Read below for the brawl video and what Nick Cousins chirped at Larkin after
Things got nasty at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night.
Senators forward Ridly Greig caught Alex DeBrincat with a big reverse hit as the second period wound down, and Dylan Larkin didn’t wait around. The Red Wings center went right after Greig, and it turned into a full-on brawl along the boards just as the horn sounded.
Watch the whole thing:
Ben Chiarot and Thomas Chabot got tangled up, DeBrincat tried to square off with Shane Pinto, and Emmitt Finnie jumped in too. Larkin ended up wrestling with Chabot while a linesman tried to pull them apart.
Nobody got a fighting major. The officials handed out nine roughing minors at 20:00 of the second. DeBrincat and Chiarot each took double minors for Detroit, while Larkin got a single. Greig and Pinto took doubles for Ottawa.
Seeing Larkin lead the charge stood out given everything going on with him. Tuesday was his season debut after coming off injured reserve, and his first game since Detroit took the C off his sweater following his offseason trade request. Fans booed him on his first shift, then cheered when he scored to give the Wings a 2-1 lead in the first:
Nick Cousins made sure to bring the captaincy up. The Senators forward chirped Larkin about the missing letter as he skated off after the scrap:
Greig was playing his first game of the year too. He’d just served a two-game suspension for sucker-punching Sean Walker in the 2026 playoffs. He and DeBrincat were teammates in Ottawa back in 2022-23.
Detroit opened the third killing off Larkin’s penalty and went on to win 5-3, its first win of the season. DeBrincat scored twice, including a power-play empty-netter at 19:10 of the third, and added an assist. Justin Faulk picked up the 500th point of his career on that final goal.
Larkin finished with a goal and an assist and was named the game’s first star. He got booed when the night started, and by the end, most of the building was back in his corner.
