Roberto Luongo is a legend.

Former NHL goalie Roberto Luongo responded to a “goalie wanted” ad on Facebook and showed up at a beer-league hockey game. Yes, you read that right.

According to the Morning Skate Hockey show, Luongo helped a beer-league hockey team win their playoff game. Luongo’s team took down the five-time defending league champions by a 4-2 score.

Check out this awesome photo below:

We’re fascinated by Luongo’s goalie pads, which appear to feature a mix of Canucks and Panthers design. Bobby Lu wore these pads at the all-star game and has continued to use them past retirement. Judging by the puck marks, they are getting some decent use.

Here’s the moment Luongo entered the locker room and was announced as the starting goalie for the team:

In the video, Luongo can be heard asking the team, “I need some defense okay?”. We’re going to go out on a limb and guess this isn’t Lu’s first beer league rodeo.

We can only imagine the feeling of going to the usual Monday night 11 pm game with your buddies and seeing Roberto Luongo is the goalie for the opposing team. Props to the two players who got pucks past the former NHL netminder.

One of the players who scored on Luongo is Dean Greenwood, who tells Gino Hard he chirped the goalie after putting the puck past him. Even though he lost the game, Dean can tell all his friends he scored on the legendary Bobby Lu.

Luongo is simply awesome for this. These beer leaguers now have a story for life.
