The NHL has fined Matthew Tkachuk and Nick Cousins for their roles in the scrum at the Senators bench Wednesday night.
Tkachuk was hit with a $5,000 fine for roughing. Cousins was fined $4,091.49 for unsportsmanlike conduct toward an opponent while on the bench. Neither player was suspended.
Both fines are the maximum allowed, as Chris Johnston noted:
The league did not spell out the incidents behind the fines, per The Canadian Press. Both players were part of the third-period melee that broke out after Senators goalie Linus Ullmark went down hurt.
Matthew Tkachuk roughed up Dylan Cozens near the Ottawa bench. That brought Brady Tkachuk into it, and the whole thing escalated from there.
Here’s our clip of the rough stuff at the Senators bench right after Ullmark went down:
It was that kind of night in Canadian Tire Centre. Ottawa won 5-1 in Brady Tkachuk’s return, and the Panthers and Senators combined for 28 penalties.
Sam Bennett and Ridly Greig also dropped the gloves in the third period. No other fines or suspensions have been announced from the game so far.
