David Pastrnak is now third on the Bruins’ all-time goals list.

The Boston captain scored his 428th goal as a Bruin on Saturday, a first-period breakaway against the Blackhawks that moved him past Patrice Bergeron, who finished with 427. Pavel Zacha sent him in with a stretch pass, and Pastrnak chipped the puck over Arvid Soderblom’s glove at 13:05 to tie the game 1-1.

Watch the goal:

Boston needed overtime to win it. Elias Lindholm scored at 2:32 of the extra frame for a 5-4 victory, and Morgan Geekie tied the game with 12 seconds left in regulation after the Bruins trailed 4-2 in the third.

Pastrnak was asked about passing his former linemate and kept the focus on Bergeron.

He called Bergeron a legend and said Bergeron deserves the credit. “I’m honored and blessed that he’s my friend and I’m very humbled by it,” Pastrnak said. “At the same time, he’s the reason I’ve passed him because he was a big part of it, and I’m blessed I got to know him and learn from him.”

Bergeron enters the Hockey Hall of Fame with the Class of 2026 on Nov. 9. He got to 427 goals in 1,288 games with Boston, while Pastrnak did it in his 848th game.

Coach Marco Sturm called it a huge milestone. “Doing that with one franchise, especially a franchise like the Boston Bruins, is pretty amazing,” Sturm said. He added that at 30 years old, Pastrnak is “still not done yet.”

Pastrnak was named the 28th captain in Bruins history on Sept. 27, and he has kept scoring since. His early-season goal drought ended in a rout earlier this month.

Phil Esposito is next at 459 goals. Johnny Bucyk sits first with 545.
