The NHL is adding a Monday night to its European schedule.
The league announced NHL Monday Night Hockey on Tuesday, a new package of 11 games that will air live in European prime time this season. The first one is Nov. 30, and every game drops the puck in the evening across Europe and in the afternoon in North America.
The opener is Senators at Predators at 7 p.m. CET, which is 6 p.m. in the UK and 8 p.m. in Finland. It lines up Germany’s Tim Stutzle against Switzerland’s Roman Josi and Sweden’s Filip Forsberg, a good way to kick off a European package.
Sixteen clubs show up across the 11 games. The package sits next to the existing Saturday and Sunday European windows, and it needs a broadcaster in each market. Those are NovaAction in Czechia, STAR in Finland, Sky Sport in Germany, Dajto in Slovakia, TV6 in Sweden, MySports in Switzerland, and Premier Sport and ITV in the UK. ITV won’t carry the Dec. 28 or Jan. 18 games. Each market’s times are on the NHL’s broadcast schedule page.
The marquee night is Dec. 21, when Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals visit William Nylander and the Maple Leafs. The Dec. 7 game sends the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avalanche to the Islanders and Matthew Schaefer, and the season finale on Apr. 5 puts the Flyers in Raleigh against the Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes.
Here are all 11 games:
| Date | Matchup |
|---|---|
| Nov. 30 | Senators at Predators |
| Dec. 7 | Avalanche at Islanders |
| Dec. 14 | Sabres at Senators |
| Dec. 21 | Capitals at Maple Leafs |
| Dec. 28 | Golden Knights at Wild |
| Jan. 18 | Canadiens at Sabres |
| Feb. 1 | Islanders at Panthers |
| Feb. 15 | Ducks at Bruins |
| Feb. 22 | Canadiens at Flyers |
| Mar. 15 | Lightning at Capitals |
| Apr. 5 | Flyers at Hurricanes |
The package also fits around the league’s trips overseas. The Hurricanes and Kraken play in Helsinki on Nov. 12 and 14, and the Senators and Blackhawks head to Düsseldorf on Dec. 18 and 20 for the Germany games. Ottawa hosts Buffalo on the Monday before it flies out.
