Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith are moving in together.
Celebrini was asked about his housing situation after an informal skate at Sharks Ice on Thursday and confirmed the two of them will share a place for the 2026-27 season, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
They have done a version of this before. Celebrini and Smith roomed together through their first rookie tournament in 2024, then split up and moved into the homes of two San Jose legends. Celebrini landed at Joe Thornton’s place. Smith went to Patrick Marleau’s.
Both of them went back to those houses for a second year in 2025-26. Now the training wheels are off and the landlords are out of the picture.
We floated the obvious question on our own timeline, and nobody seems to have a better answer than these two:
Best bromance in the NHL is not a stretch. The two of them ran the Rocky steps together in Philadelphia on a road trip last season, and Smith has admitted to hiding from math homework at Thornton’s dinner table while Celebrini tutored Jumbo’s son.
The on-ice partnership is doing fine too. Celebrini put up 115 points in 82 games last season on 45 goals and 70 assists, wiping out Thornton’s single-season franchise record while renting the man’s spare room. Smith went for 24 goals and 35 assists in 69 games.
San Jose is also expected to hand Celebrini the captaincy before the season starts, which would make the 20-year-old the 11th full-time captain in franchise history.
