The Blues will be without Dillon Dube for at least eight weeks.
General manager Alexander Steen announced Saturday that the forward has a neck injury and will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, according to the NHL Status Report. That puts his earliest return in early December.
Dube got hurt Thursday in San Jose. Early in the first period he battled with Sharks forward Will Smith for a loose puck along the boards, and the two carried their momentum into the corner with Dube going in head-first.
Watch the collision:
Dube was slow to get up but made it to the bench on his own and finished the game. He logged 11:07 across 15 shifts and scored a shorthanded goal in the third period, his first of the season, in a 3-2 overtime loss.
Blues head coach Jim Montgomery was asked Friday about Dube’s status after the winger missed practice. Montgomery said the team was being careful while it waited on MRI results and called Dube doubtful for Saturday, though he wouldn’t rule him out entirely.
Here’s the quote from Lou Korac:
Saturday’s update was a lot more serious than that.
Zach Dean moves into the lineup when St. Louis hosts the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. ET. Dube is the second Blues forward to go down early, after Alexey Toropchenko left the season opener with an injury of his own.
Dube is 28 and played three of the Blues’ first four games after signing a one-year, $850,000 deal in July. The goal against San Jose was his first point of the season.
The Blues are 1-2-1 and host the Blue Jackets tonight without him.
