Crosby’s right at home.

The Penguins captain has Canada sitting 6-0 in preliminary round play at the 2026 IIHF World Championship after a 5-1 win over Slovakia on Sunday. He’s wearing an A. Macklin Celebrini kept the C.

Watch Crosby set up the opener:

That’s exactly how he’s playing this tournament. Quiet, but you can pick him out of every shift.

He set up three goals in the 4-3 OT opener against Sweden, including the dagger in extra time. Sunday he found Dylan Cozens for the first goal of the day before Canada blew it open with four in the third period.

The captaincy worked out exactly how it should have. I wrote two weeks ago that I’d love to see Sid let the kid keep it, and that’s how it played out.

Celebrini is still wearing the C. Sid took an A and slid into the playmaker role he’s owned his whole career.

This is the version of Crosby that wins tournaments. Last year in Stockholm he had 12 points in eight games before Denmark stunned Canada in the quarters. The redemption mission is still out there.

Hockey Canada called it a successful Sunday after the Slovakia win:

The 6-0 start has Canada tied with Switzerland and Finland for the best record in the tournament. The final prelim game is Tuesday against Czechia, then quarterfinals on Thursday in Zurich or Fribourg.

If Canada wants to flip last year’s script and get to the gold medal game, Crosby’s quiet game is the through-line.
