Seth Jarvis is finally out of the yellow jersey.
The Hurricanes forward skated in a regular practice sweater at Thursday’s morning skate for the first time since his offseason shoulder surgery, a sign he can now take contact. Hurricanes reporter Walt Ruff was first to spot it, noting Jarvis worked as an extra and isn’t ready to return just yet.

Jarvis was asked afterward where this leaves him in his recovery.
“It’s probably the biggest step I’ve had so far, being able to get out of that (noncontact jersey), being able to take contact now,” Jarvis said. “Now it’s just a matter of getting comfortable and making sure it’s ready to go.”
Here’s Ruff’s post with more from Jarvis:
The 24-year-old had surgery in June to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Carolina pegged the recovery at four to six months, which put a return somewhere between late October and December.
Jarvis won’t play Thursday against the Canucks. He also said the shoulder doesn’t bother him anymore and called easing into contact “the biggest step right now.”
Rod Brind’Amour talked about Jarvis’ progress and kept it simple.
“It’s a good sign. There’s a timeline, so we’re just following that,” the Hurricanes coach said. “He’s feeling good, so just keep moving along.”
His shoulder trouble goes back to the 2023-24 season. Jarvis chose to play through it instead of losing months, and he suited up for 71 regular-season games and 19 more in the playoffs last year. That run ended with a Stanley Cup banner in Raleigh. He also played five games for Canada at the Olympics in February.
Carolina lost its leading goal scorer to the surgery. Jarvis had 32 goals last season and added 11 points in the playoffs.
Eric Robinson and William Carrier have taken turns in his usual spot next to Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov. Aho has seven points through four games, and Jarvis likes what he’s seen from his linemates.
“I think they’ve been aggressive,” Jarvis said. “They’ve done a really good job of not really playing on the perimeter and being a little more direct with our offense.”
