Alex DeBrincat picked the perfect moment for goal No. 300.
The Red Wings forward tied Tuesday’s game against the Kraken 3-3 with 17 seconds left in regulation, and it was the 300th goal of his NHL career. Seattle still won 4-3 in a shootout at Climate Pledge Arena, but Detroit left with a point after trailing 3-0 entering the third.

The Red Wings pulled goalie Daniil Tarasov for the extra attacker while on a power play. A tic-tac-toe passing play ended with DeBrincat’s wrist shot at the left post, per the NHL.com recap.
Detroit coach Todd McLellan talked about the play afterward.
“A lot of guys would have just shot that,” McLellan said. “But (Lucas) Raymond saw ‘Cat’ off to the side, and ‘Cat’ doesn’t miss many of those.”
DeBrincat got there in 705 games, which makes him the fourth-fastest active American to 300 goals. Only Auston Matthews (482 games), Kyle Connor (648) and Jake Guentzel (670) reached the mark quicker. He finished with a goal and an assist.
The comeback started early in the third. Viktor Arvidsson cut the lead to 3-1 at 6:25, and Raymond scored his first goal of the season on the power play at 7:24 to make it 3-2. Seattle had gone up 3-0 on goals from Mackie Samoskevich, Ryker Evans and Brandon Montour.
Bobby McMann won it for the Kraken in the fourth round of the shootout.
DeBrincat now has six goals and five assists through nine games. Detroit sits at 3-3-3 and has points in five straight, even as the team deals with the Dylan Larkin trade saga off the ice.
The Red Wings face the Canucks on Thursday.
