Cole Knuble made his NHL debut Monday night, and he did it in a Flyers sweater.

The 22-year-old forward is the son of former Flyers winger Mike Knuble, and both of his parents were in the building as Philadelphia hosted the Colorado Avalanche, the Associated Press reported.

Knuble was one of three players called up from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League to fill in for injured forwards Owen Tippett, Tyson Foerster and Travis Konecny. Philadelphia came in at 1-6-3, with its first win of the season having come just two days earlier.

Knuble talked about what the night meant after the morning skate.

“Obviously I have been a fan of this team my whole life, so I think it’s extra special,” Knuble said.

Knuble was also asked what he remembers from those childhood trips to the arena. NBC Sports Philadelphia relayed his answer.

“I probably remember the family lounge more and playing mini sticks with my brother,” Knuble said. “But I remember little things. Peco power play was around, so all of that stuff.”

Mike played 362 games with the Flyers, counting the playoffs, across two stints in 2005-09 and 2013. Cole was a fourth-round pick in 2023 and signed his entry-level deal in March after wrapping up his junior season at Notre Dame.

He came close to making the team out of training camp. Knuble said the disappointment of getting sent down faded quickly because he was playing in every situation with Lehigh Valley.

He has also talked about what his dad drilled into him. Mike’s favorite saying was “If you have 12 eggs in your pockets, they should all be broken,” a reminder that you battle every shift.

The injuries are not going away. Foerster took a shot off his right hand in the previous game, and Jordan Hall caught him testing it Monday morning:

Tippett went on injured reserve Monday and cannot return until Saturday, when the Flyers host the Anaheim Ducks. Matvei Michkov, meanwhile, kept his goal streak going in the same game.
