- Read below for how Kane added another assist on the overtime winner
Patrick Kane is the NHL’s all-time assist leader among U.S.-born players.
Kane got there Thursday night with his 895th career assist, per the Associated Press. It passed Phil Housley, who finished with 894. We flagged the chase earlier this week when Kane sat one shy.
The record-setter came in the first period against the Jets. Kane passed from the goal line to Bedard, who beat Stuart Skinner from the slot on the power play at 8:11. It was Bedard’s first goal of the season after he missed the first six games following offseason shoulder surgery.

Kane wasn’t done. He gained the Jets’ zone in overtime and dropped the puck to Bedard, who fed Artyom Levshunov. The defenseman snapped a shot past Skinner at 1:37 to give Chicago a 4-3 win.
Our video of the winner:
Kane took 1,377 games to get to 895. Housley needed 1,496. The 37-year-old now has 1,405 career points, and he’s in his 20th NHL season.
This is the second U.S.-born record for Kane this year. In January, while with the Detroit Red Wings, he passed Mike Modano for the most points by an American-born player. He signed a two-year contract in July to return to Chicago, where he won three Stanley Cups.
The Blackhawks improved to 3-5-0. Bedard has points in both games since coming back, and Kane has helped on the biggest moments of each.
