Tim Stutzle needed less than two minutes to wreck the Bruins on Monday night.
The Senators forward scored twice in a 1:43 span of the first period at TD Garden, and both came around the same Boston power play. Ottawa cruised from there to a 4-1 win.
Warren Foegele went to the box for interference at 7:19 of the first. Twenty seconds later, Stutzle jumped on a David Pastrnak giveaway and snapped one past Jeremy Swayman for the shorthanded goal. Michael Amadio picked up the assist.
Watch the shorthanded goal video:
He wasn’t done. Foegele’s penalty expired at 9:19, and three seconds later Stutzle beat Swayman again to make it 2-0.
Check out the second goal:
Stutzle then set up Drake Batherson, fresh off his big extension, for a backhander 1:06 into the second. Amadio made it 4-0 at 5:19, and the Bruins didn’t get on the board until James Hagens beat Samuel Ersson early in the third.
That three-point night moved Stutzle up Ottawa’s all-time list. He now has 413 career points, passing Wade Redden (410) for sixth in franchise history.
Take a look at the Senators’ post on the milestone:
Brady Tkachuk sits fifth with 463, but he’s no longer around to pad that number. Daniel Alfredsson leads the way with 1,108 points, followed by Jason Spezza, Erik Karlsson and Alexei Yashin.
Last season, Stutzle put up 34 goals and 83 points. Through two games this year he has two goals and four points, and the Senators are 2-0 under new captain Thomas Chabot.
Ottawa gets no time to enjoy it. The Senators visit Detroit on Tuesday night to finish a back-to-back.
