Detroit gave Patrick Kane the welcome he was wondering about.
Red Wings fans rose to their feet for a standing ovation Thursday night when Kane returned to Little Caesars Arena with the Blackhawks. Before the game, the Red Wings played a tribute video on the arena board with highlights from his three seasons in Detroit.
Here’s the moment, courtesy of our @GinoHard_ account:
Players from both teams tapped their sticks on the ice while the crowd cheered. Kane skated out and saluted the fans, then went back to the bench with a smile that said plenty.

Kane had talked about this a day earlier. He was asked what reception he expected and said he didn’t know, but that “the fans were great to me there.” We have the full quote in our Kane Detroit return story.
Kane’s son, Trick, had a big night too. He reunited with Alex DeBrincat’s son, Archie, before the game, and the Red Wings posted a picture of the two best friends:
The boys sounded the horn to start the game. Trick also gave his dad a fist bump before Kane hit the ice, and Kane looked surprised to see his son leading them:
Kane played in Detroit from 2023 to 2026, posting 57 goals and 106 assists in 189 games. He signed a two-year contract with Chicago in July, returning to the team where he played 17 of his 20 NHL seasons.
The Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 4-1 behind a Viktor Arvidsson hat trick. It was the same day Detroit suspended Dylan Larkin without pay.
