David Perron is headed to Dallas.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was first to report that the Stars are signing the 38-year-old winger, who will play his 20th NHL season. Check out Friedman’s post:

Sportsnet’s Frank Seravalli followed with the money. It’s a one-year deal at a pro-rated $850,000, which is the league minimum. Here’s Seravalli:

The Stars hadn’t made it official when the reports came out. Perron had been sitting on the free agent market since the summer, and his agent had said he was committed to playing this season.

Dallas needs the help up front. The Stars are 3-3-1 through seven games and sit near the bottom of the league in scoring, a rough start for a team that finished second in the Western Conference last year. They also lost Matt Duchene for three months after surgery earlier this week, and Wyatt Johnston and Oskar Back are both day-to-day.

Perron isn’t the player he was when he put up at least 45 points eight straight seasons. He had 13 goals and 28 points in 65 games last year, split between Ottawa and Detroit. After the Red Wings picked him up in March, he managed three points in 16 games.

Still, the résumé is there. Perron has 332 goals and 812 points in 1,239 NHL games, and he won a Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019, when he scored 46 points in 57 regular-season games and added 16 more in 26 playoff games.

Dallas will be his eighth NHL team after stops in St. Louis, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Vegas, Detroit and Ottawa.
