- John Chayka cut 11 people from the Leafs front office in a single day
- Hayley Wickenheiser, Darryl Metcalf, Mark Leach and Dave Morrison are all out

John Chayka is not done tearing down the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The new general manager cleared out 11 people from the front office on Thursday, per Toronto Sun beat reporter Terry Koshan. The list runs deep, and it includes some of the most recognizable names in the building.
Here is Koshan’s full rundown:
Assistant general manager Hayley Wickenheiser is the headliner. She joined the Leafs in 2022 and had been running player development. Also gone are assistant GM Darryl Metcalf, director of amateur scouting Mark Leach, senior advisor Dave Morrison, and Hall of Famer Danielle Goyette.
Wickenheiser addressed her exit herself. She posted a statement saying Chayka “envisioned a different path” for the role she held.
Here is her goodbye:
The team released a statement from Chayka on the cuts. “As part of our ongoing evaluation of the organization, we have made the difficult decision to part ways with some valued colleagues,” Chayka said. “These decisions were not easy and are not a reflection of the commitment of the impacted people.”
This caps a wild stretch. Chayka already reshaped the roster, moving out goalie Joseph Woll and defenseman Brandon Carlo while bringing in Darren Raddysh, Nick Paul, and Sergei Bobrovsky. He has added to the staff too, hiring Daniel Alfredsson earlier this week.
Eleven jobs in one afternoon. Chayka is stacking the organization with his own people, and the Toronto front office fans knew a month ago is vanishing fast.
