The Flyers made the wrong kind of history on Sunday night.

Philadelphia lost 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes, its seventh straight game without a win to open the season. That is a franchise record. The Flyers sit at 0-5-2 with a 28-8 goal differential against them.

Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov each had a goal and an assist for Carolina, which won its fifth in a row. Shayne Gostisbehere and Mark Jankowski also scored, and Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 18 of 19 shots.

Christian Dvorak got the lone Flyers goal in the second period, deflecting a Nick Seeler shot to cut it to 2-1. Aho scored about a minute and a half later to kill the momentum. Watch the goal:

The old mark was six, set in 2008-09 when the Flyers lost their first six games. That team still made the playoffs and finished with 99 points. This group has scored just eight goals through seven games, and Joseph Woll made 26 saves on 30 shots Sunday.

Rick Tocchet was asked before the game about the noise around the team. He said it comes with the job, and he put the blame on himself.

“We owe the fans a better product on the ice and we haven’t given it to them yet. When that doesn’t happen, it’s on me, I’ve got to take the blame on that.”

Some fans in the building had already moved past that. There were faint “fire Tocchet” chants in the third period.

Tocchet had gone public earlier in the skid too. After the loss to Tampa Bay he called his team “way too comfortable.”

The injuries are not helping. Travis Konecny went on injured reserve Sunday and is out this week, while Rasmus Ristolainen and Cam York also missed the game. Oliver Bonk was called up and played on the top pair next to Travis Sanheim.

The Flyers are one of three teams still looking for a first win, along with the Flames. They host the Senators on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
