Connor McDavid now owns the NHL record for the longest assist streak to start a season.
He picked up two helpers in Edmonton’s 4-0 win over the Flames on Wednesday, stretching the run to 13 games. The Oilers captain has an assist in every game the team has played in 2026-27.
McDavid passed the 12-game mark shared by Sebastian Aho, Ken Linseman and Wayne Gretzky. Here’s how the list looks now:
| Player | Season | Games |
|---|---|---|
| Connor McDavid (Oilers) | 2026-27 | 13 |
| Wayne Gretzky (Oilers) | 1982-83 | 12 |
| Ken Linseman (Bruins) | 1985-86 | 12 |
| Sebastian Aho (Hurricanes) | 2018-19 | 12 |
The first one came early. McDavid sent a pass from the right dot across the slot to Mathieu Joseph, who scored on Edmonton’s first shot of the game at 7:46 of the first period.
The second came 55 seconds into the second period on the power play. McDavid slid a pass across the crease to Kasperi Kapanen for a 3-0 lead, and Alex Formenton made it 4-0 just 21 seconds later. Watch the two goals back to back:
Tristan Jarry stopped 24 shots for his first shutout of the season, and Mattias Ekholm added a goal in his return from a concussion. The win got Edmonton to 9-2-2 after its first two-game losing streak of the year.
McDavid now has 36 points (eight goals, 28 assists) in 13 games, the most in the league. We looked at his hot start earlier this month, when Auston Matthews called facing Edmonton a big challenge.
The night wasn’t all good for the other side. Flames goalie Devin Cooley left late in the first period with a lower-body injury after a collision with Colton Dach, and Dustin Wolf stopped 20 of 23 in relief.
Gretzky’s name is on that list, and McDavid just moved ahead of it.
