Connor Bedard was raised the right way.
Bedard gave a very humble post-game interview after winning gold with Team Canada at the 2023 World Juniors tournament. The Canadians won 3-2 over Czechia in overtime thanks to the golden goal from Dylan Guenther.
Bedard was named MVP after his incredible performance at the tournament. The 17-year-old set the record for the most points (32) and goals (15) by a Canadian at the World Juniors.
After Canada won gold, reporters obviously wanted to ask Bedard about his insane tournament. Bedard, though, didn’t want to make the interview about himself.
“I don’t want to talk about myself right now”, Bedard told the reporter. “We‘re not talking about me. We just won the biggest tournament in the world…”

This is simply awesome from Bedard. It would’ve been easy for Bedard to talk endlessly about his individual accomplishments and what it means to him to make Canadian history. Instead, he focused on what the team accomplished.
It’s important to remember Bedard is only 17 years of age and one of the youngest players in the tournament. That type of poise and professionalism is something you rarely see from young athletes.
Bedard is projected to be selected first overall in the 2023 NHL Draft in June. Whatever NHL team lands the prized prospect is not only getting an insane talent, but also a really great person.
