Mackie Samoskevich picked a good night to open his Kraken account.

The speedy winger scored twice in Seattle’s home opener Sunday, and the Kraken hammered the Calgary Flames 6-1 at Climate Pledge Arena. Those were his first two goals since Seattle pried him away from the Panthers in June.

His first one showed exactly why the Kraken wanted him. Brandon Montour flipped a high clearing pass out of the defensive zone, Kevin Bahl lost his footing at the Calgary blue line, and Samoskevich blew past him to the loose puck. He deked Dustin Wolf and slid a backhand under him at 4:40 of the first period to make it 2-0.

Watch Samoskevich turn on the jets:

Berkly Catton had opened the scoring at 2:22 with a wrist shot over Wolf’s glove. Bobby McMann made it 3-0 at 7:40, and Shane Wright added a fourth at 11:58 of the second with a backhand that went five-hole while his back was to the net.

Here’s the Wright goal off the Catton feed:

Samoskevich wasn’t done. With 26 seconds left in the second, Matty Beniers found him in the right circle on a 3-on-3 rush, and he roofed a wrister over Wolf’s blocker for a 5-0 lead.

Check out his second of the night:

Sunday was only his second game in a Seattle sweater. Samoskevich picked up an upper-body injury in camp and sat out the season opener in Calgary before debuting Saturday in Edmonton.

Getting him wasn’t cheap. Seattle sent Florida a 2026 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-rounder on June 21, then signed the 23-year-old to a three-year, $11.55 million deal ($3.85 million AAV) on July 1. He’s a big piece of a roster built around young, fast forwards.

Joey Daccord made 32 saves and came within 5:35 of a shutout before Morgan Frost tipped in a power-play goal. Jordan Eberle answered 39 seconds later to close out the scoring.

Calgary has now lost to Seattle by the same 6-1 score twice in four days. The Flames are 0-3-0, and Wolf gave up six goals on 27 shots. The Kraken improved to 2-1-0.

Two goals on home ice earned Samoskevich first-star honors.
