This is one of the best 3-on-3 overtimes of all time.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers played an electric overtime session at Scotiabank Arena on Monday evening. The Rangers won the game 2-1 when Artemi Panarin scored the OT winner.
Hockey fans and media members are calling this overtime one of the best ever played in the NHL. The five-minute session featured several incredible dekes and back-and-forth action.
Auston Matthews was making his season debut for the Maple Leafs. He could only slouch over on the bench after whiffing on an empty net in overtime.
Here’s the full overtime session:
Here’s some of the reaction to the overtime:
Rangers and Maple Leafs just played an incredible overtime. Panarin won it for the Rangers. Forget five minutes of 3 on 3 OT, let them play up to ten minutes. If that doesn’t settle it, call it a tie and get rid of that hideous shootout.

This might be the craziest overtime I've ever seen #NYR #HockeyTwitter

It simply doesn’t get much better than this. With superstars like Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Alexis Lafreniere, Adam Fox all on the ice at the same time, the result is incredible hockey.
Shesterkin truly stole the show in the game, stopping 40 shots. Jack Campbell was also solid in the Maple Leafs crease, but he wasn’t tested nearly as much.
Every 3-on-3 overtime can only strive to be as good as what we saw Monday evening.
