Troy Stecher scored with under 30 seconds left to give the Maple Leafs a 5-4 win over the Rangers on Thursday night.
Toronto was on a delayed penalty when Stecher took a pass from Morgan Rielly at the top of the right circle and fired it over Dylan Garand’s glove. It was his first goal of the season in his 11th game.
Here’s the shot:
New York had tied it 4-4 on an Alexis Lafreniere goal at 14:25 of the third, a shot through traffic that beat Sergei Bobrovsky’s blocker. The Leafs answered about five minutes later.
Brandon Duhaime had a goal and two assists, and Teddy Blueger scored for his first point of the season. Easton Cowan opened the scoring on a breakaway at 1:36 of the first period.
Kirill Marchenko gave Toronto a 4-3 lead on the power play at 19:09 of the second. Watch Marchenko’s goal:
Bobrovsky made 21 saves for his 459th NHL win, tying Henrik Lundqvist for sixth on the all-time list. The Leafs (6-4-2) have won three straight, and they’ve done it while dealing with defensive injuries that Jim Hiller said would require help from the forwards.
Adam Fox had four assists for the Rangers (7-4-1), and Mika Zibanejad added a goal and an assist. Garand had his moments too, including this glove save on Auston Matthews:
The Leafs visit Edmonton on Saturday, the same night the Rangers play in Ottawa.
