Trevor Zegras trick shot skills competition

We have no words, Trevor Zegras.

Zegras pulled off an insane trick shot at the 2022 NHL All-Star Skills Competition in Las Vegas on Friday. Zegras was participating in the “Anything Goes Breakaway Challenge”.

The Anaheim Ducks’ rookie was wearing a costume from the hilarious movie “Dodgeball” while doing the competition. If you want to feel old, Zegras was only 3 years of age when the movie released in theatres.

Zegras pulled off the insane wizardry while blindfolded. Zegras controlled the puck on his stick mid-air while swinging it around on his blade. He finished with a nasty spin-o-rama move. To make it even more impressive, dodgeballs were flying at him.

Sportsnet commentator Kevin Bieksa summed up the Zegras magic nicely. “I don’t know what just happened, but that was pretty cool.”

There was a panel of six judges for the competition, including actor Jon Hamm and NHL legend Mark Messier. All but two judges awarded Zegras a perfect 10/10 score for his breakaway challenge attempt. The other two judges gave Zegras a 9/10.

While the move was spectacular, Zegras somehow didn’t win the event. The judges awarded Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo the winner of the NHL Breakaway Challenge. Even though Petro didn’t score, the judges awarded him a perfect score. We guess it’s true that the house always wins in Vegas.

Zegras didn’t win the NHL Breakaway Challenge, but his goal will certainly be the top viewed highlight from the weekend. If anything, we’ve learned that the future of the NHL is in great hands.
