Taylor Hall’s return to the Hurricanes lineup is on hold again.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour said Thursday that Hall will miss the next couple of games with an upper-body injury. Hall tweaked something in practice on Tuesday and sat out that night’s game against the Bruins.

Here’s Thursday’s update:

The setback stings because Hall had told reporters Monday that he expected to be back after a five-game absence. That absence started with the upper-body injury he suffered earlier this month.

Brind’Amour was asked about Hall after Tuesday’s news and kept the tone calm.

“He kind of tweaked something else today. I don’t know… I can’t really give you an update yet, but I don’t think it’s going to be serious. It’s not serious, but he’s gonna be out for a little bit,” Brind’Amour said.

Watch how that played out Tuesday night:

Hall had three goals and two assists for five points in eight games before getting hurt. The 34-year-old is in his 18th NHL season and has 792 points in 997 career games. He lifted the Stanley Cup for the first time last spring and had 19 points in the playoffs with Carolina.

The Hurricanes are doing fine without him. They sit at 10-2-2 with 22 points through 14 games, the top record in the NHL, and Pyotr Kochetkov is 8-0 in net.

Carolina faces the Blue Jackets on Thursday night, and Hall won’t be in the lineup.
