Taylor Hall is week to week with an upper-body injury.

Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour gave the update Friday and didn’t offer a firm return date.

“We’ve got kind of a week-to-week situation happening,” Brind’Amour said. “So ask me again in a week.”

Hall left in the second period of Tuesday’s win over the Capitals. Carolina announced during the game that he would not return:

The Hockey News reported that Hall took a hit from Capitals center Justin Sourdif late in the first period. He took a power play shift in the second, then went straight back to the locker room holding his midsection.

Brind’Amour was already pessimistic after the game. Joe Smith of The Athletic shared the coach’s postgame comments, and we covered the first update on Hall’s injury at the time:

Hall has five points (three goals, two assists) in eight games this season. He had 19 points in 19 playoff games last spring as Carolina won the Stanley Cup.

The 34-year-old is also three games shy of 1,000 in the NHL. Week to week means that milestone waits. He has 792 career points and won the Hart Trophy with the Devils in 2017-18, when he put up a career-high 93.

The Hurricanes are 6-1-1 and have won six straight after an 0-1-1 start. They are doing it without captain Jordan Staal, who is out one to two months with a calf tear.

Some help may be close. Seth Jarvis could make his season debut Saturday at Winnipeg (3:30 p.m. ET), the first stop on a five-game road trip. Jarvis had surgery in June to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

Brind’Amour said he hopes Jarvis plays on the trip, but the winger hasn’t been cleared yet.
