Highlights
  • Quinn Hughes became the fastest player in Wild history to reach 20 multi-point games
  • He passed Pavol Demitra, who needed 66 games, by doing it in 62
  • Read below for his historic October pace among NHL defensemen

Quinn Quinn Hughes just passed a Wild franchise legend in the record book.

The defenseman recorded two assists in Minnesota’s 3-1 win over the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday night. That gave him his 20th multi-point game as a member of the Wild, and he got there in 62 games. Pavol Demitra held the previous franchise mark at 66 games.

Hughes has played 14 of those 62 games this season, with the other 48 coming after last year’s blockbuster trade from Vancouver. Six of his 20 multi-point nights have come this season. Demitra set the old record after joining Minnesota for the 2006-07 season and spent two years with the club.

Take a look at the NHL stats nuggets from the night:

His 18 points in 14 games (three goals, 15 assists) make him the third defenseman since 1992-93 to put up 18-plus points in a single October. John Carlson had 23 points in October 2019 with the Capitals, and Cale Makar had 19 in October 2024 with the Avalanche.

Hughes has one more game this month to catch both of them. The Wild host the New York Islanders on Thursday.

He picked up the game-winning goal Sunday against his former team in Vancouver, then followed it with the two-assist night in Salt Lake City. Minnesota finished its five-game road trip 3-1-1 and sits at 9-3-2.

Hughes isn’t the only Wild player on a tear. Kirill Kaprizov has 14 goals in 14 games, a pace we broke down in our Kaprizov goal streak story.

Edmonton’s Evan Bouchard is also in the October chase. He has 21 points overall, 16 of them this month, with two games left to try to catch the three names ahead of him.
