Brady Tkachuk wasn’t the only one who dropped the gloves in Ottawa.
Panthers-Senators turned into a full brawl night at Canadian Tire Centre, and the fights started early. Hayden Hodgson and Boko Imama dropped the gloves at center ice. Take a look:
In the third period, Ridly Greig sent Dmitry Kulikov flying with a hit. Here’s the hit:
Sam Bennett stepped in and fought Greig for it. Watch the fight:
The Panthers took 15 penalties and the Senators took 13, per NHL.com, with scrum after scrum involving one or both Tkachuks. A scuffle in front of the Ottawa bench between the Tkachuk brothers and several of Brady’s former teammates led to roughing minors, and it was dozens of jerseys flying onto the ice right after.
Shane Pinto was asked about the energy in the building after the game. “Obviously the fans were super in it, obviously like a playoff game. That was the most fun I think we’ve had in a while,” he said.
Claude Giroux has played 1,355 NHL games over 20 years. Asked if he had ever played in a game with that much hostility toward a former teammate, he said: “Not that I remember. It was a unique game, for sure.”
Ottawa won it 5-1, and the fans got to watch the whole thing from start to finish.
