Alex Ovechkin had a busy summer behind the wheel.
The Capitals captain collected 33 traffic fines during his offseason in Russia, according to the Telegram channel Mash Sports. They total 82,000 rubles, roughly $1,000 USD, and every last one of them is registered to his Aurus Arsenal minivan.
Most of the tickets were speeding. The rest were a mix of unpaid parking, stopping and parking where he shouldn’t have, and running a toll road without paying.
Ovechkin has already cleared 32 of the 33. One 4,500-ruble fine is still open.
The vehicle in those photos is the best part of this. An Aurus Arsenal is a Russian-built luxury van that was made for the presidential motorcade and never sold to private buyers, and Russian outlets reported that the one turning up around Moscow appears to be his. It carries the plate number 008.
He has worn No. 8 for his entire career, so the plate is not a coincidence.
None of this is out of character for a guy who spends nearly every offseason at home. Ovechkin has already said he plans to live in Moscow full time once his playing days are over.
Washington locked him in for one more year back in July. The 2026-27 campaign will be his 22nd in the NHL, all of it in a Capitals sweater.
The 40-year-old is due back in D.C. in September for training camp, which gives him a couple of weeks to tie up loose ends at home.
That last 4,500-ruble ticket is the only thing he left unpaid in Russia this summer.
