Training camp is still a ways off. That did not stop a big group of Oilers from getting the band back together early.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl headlined a players-only dinner over a recent summer weekend, part of what Lauren Kyle McDavid labeled on a dinner menu as “Oilers weekend.” The captain’s wife shared photos from the night on her Instagram, and the guest list ran deep.
Alongside McDavid and Draisaitl, the crew included Evan Bouchard, Jason Dickinson, Isaac Howard, Colton Dach, Matthew Savoie and new Edmonton defenseman Ryan Shea. Partners came along too, with Lauren Kyle McDavid and Celeste Draisaitl helping turn a dinner into a full weekend hang near the water.
The setting did most of the talking. White outfits, candles, and a sunset over the lake made the whole thing look closer to a wedding than a hockey reunion.
It has been a long offseason in Edmonton. McDavid opened his summer with a trip to Utah, Draisaitl got back from an African honeymoon, and new goalie Frederik Andersen tied the knot earlier this month at a Copenhagen wedding that drew Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. Trent Frederic got married this summer as well.
Two names jumped out to Oilers fans. Howard and Dach were front and center in the photos, and both project to push for bigger roles once camp opens.
Last season ended with a first-round loss to the Ducks. A July dinner will not fix that on its own, but a locker room that wants to hang out in the middle of summer is a fine place to start the 2026-27 season from.
