The Oilers might be pulling their next uniform straight out of a Will Ferrell movie.
A new report from Daily Hive says Edmonton’s alternate jersey for 2026-27 could take on a “Flint Tropics” look, the fictional team Ferrell played for in the 2008 comedy Semi-Pro. Resident Oilers jersey insider Tom Gazzola shared the detail on OilersNation Everyday this week.
Gazzola was breaking down where the design is headed when he name-dropped Jackie Moon’s old squad.
“I was told there was a Flint Tropics motif to it,” Gazzola said. “Take that with a grain of salt. I was also told this is going to be the counter to the current alternate.”
Gazzola has been teasing this one for a while:
That new sweater is part of a league-wide push. Every NHL team is adding a design through Fanatics’ Hometown Remix project next season, with each look drawing from its home city. For the Oilers it means a fourth jersey in the rotation after they rolled out a fresh third last year.
Earlier leaks pointed to black as the primary color, which would be a first in franchise history, paired with neon orange and blue accents. Gazzola shot down the idea that it would copy the old orange-heavy look with no white.
“People were saying it would draw inspiration from the neon orange and blue jersey that they wore with no white in it. Not the case,” Gazzola said. “I think you’re going to see ‘Oil Country’ somewhere on the crest in writing.”
The jersey chatter lands during a busy Edmonton offseason. A first look at the full Hometown Remix collection has already made the rounds too:
Gazzola also hinted the Oilers could show the thing off at Fan Day on September 20, so the wait for a real look might not be long.
