Connor McDavid is having himself a summer.

The Oilers captain showed up at BMO Field in Toronto on Friday for Canada’s 2026 World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the TSN cameras caught him downing a glass of red wine from a luxury box. Backwards hat, drink in hand, zero worries.

Take a look at McDavid living his best life:

He has plenty of free time these days. Edmonton went out in the first round of the playoffs this spring, ending a run of two straight trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

McDavid still grabbed his sixth first-team All-Star nod this week, but his hockey is finished until the fall.

On the field, Canada gave its home crowd a scare. Bosnian striker Jovo Lukic buried a set-piece in the first half, and the co-hosts couldn’t beat goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj for most of the night.

Jesse Marsch went to his bench for a spark. He brought on striker Cyle Larin in the 75th minute, and the Southampton man needed about three minutes to level it.

Here’s Larin’s equalizer that sent Toronto into a frenzy:

That 1-1 result gave Canada its first-ever World Cup point. The country is still chasing a first win, but it’s a solid start in a Group B that also features Switzerland and Qatar.

McDavid had company in the stands. Ryan Reynolds and Mike Myers were among the announced 43,002 fans, and Alanis Morissette closed the opening ceremony with a rendition of “O Canada.”

Canada is back home Thursday in Vancouver against Qatar. McDavid will have to find a new luxury box for that one.
