The Islanders are about to land one of the most sought-after executives on the market.
Former Bruins assistant general manager Evan Gold is expected to join New York once his Boston contract expires on Aug. 1, per NHL.com’s Stefen Rosner. An official announcement should follow within a few days:

Gold isn’t a typical hockey lifer. He came out of McGill with a law degree and joined the Bruins in 2015 as Director of Legal Affairs for hockey operations, which in practice meant advising Don Sweeney on everything cap related.
That work showed up on the roster. Boston got team-friendly numbers on Zdeno Chara, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy, and Gold was an early believer in running negotiations and roster construction through analytics.
Boston promoted him to assistant general manager in 2019. Since 2023 he has also run the AHL’s Providence Bruins as general manager, a club that went 137-60-13 under him.
News of the split came on July 14, when the Bruins announced Gold was leaving after 11 seasons as part of a broader front office overhaul. He had already interviewed for the Vancouver and Toronto general manager openings and came up short on both.
New York gets him at a useful moment. Victor Eklund, Cole Eiserman, Kashawn Aitcheson and Quinn Finley are all headed for the pro ranks next season, and Mathieu Darche has a Matthew Schaefer extension waiting on the other side of that wave.
Darche is adding a cap specialist who spent the last three years watching prospects develop up close. With Schaefer’s next contract coming and four prospects arriving at once, the Islanders need exactly that mix.
