Mark Stone put the Flames away all by himself.

The Golden Knights captain scored a natural hat trick in the third period Thursday night, powering Vegas to a 6-2 win over Calgary at T-Mobile Arena. It’s the second regular-season hat trick of his career. The first came back on Jan. 15, 2024.

Stone talked about what keeps him going after the game.

“I like playing hockey, I like playing in this league, I like scoring goals,” he said. “We won. So, I just really enjoy playing this game, so that keeps getting me out of bed in the morning and excited to go to the rink.”

Here’s the goal that finished it off:

The first two were tap-ins. Stone made it 4-1 at 1:06 of the third by sliding in a backdoor pass from Jack Eichel at the right post. He made it 5-1 on the power play at 12:10, swatting home the rebound of a Noah Hanifin shot. The hat trick goal came at 16:13 for a 6-1 lead.

Stone explained how the first two came together.

“Two backdoor tap-ins help, then good play from Jack and just make a good shot,” he said. “You just go on the ice with your stick on the ice with the talented players that we have, you’re going to get your opportunities.”

Eichel had a huge night of his own with a goal and two assists. His short-handed goal at 9:34 of the first period made it 2-0, when he picked off a Yegor Sharangovich pass in the neutral zone and beat Dustin Wolf glove side on a breakaway.

Ivan Barbashev tied his career high with three assists. Mitch Marner set up Brett Howden’s opener just 25 seconds into the game, and Braeden Bowman scored on the power play in the second period. Marner also scored the overtime winner against the Kings earlier this month.

Carter Hart stopped 28 shots for Vegas, which has won six of its last seven. Wolf made 27 saves for Calgary, now 1-6-0 on the season.

Jake Middleton scored short-handed for the Flames and said his team was flat early. He told reporters Calgary “gave them too much respect through the neutral zone.” The Flames are still looking for their second win.
