The Seattle Kraken locked up one of their big summer additions. Seattle signed restricted free agent forward Mackie Samoskevich to a three-year contract, keeping the young winger in the fold well into the future.
The team announced the deal:
Elliotte Friedman put a number on it. The contract carries a $3.85 million cap hit across all three seasons, which comes out to $11.55 million total. Samoskevich stays under team control as a restricted free agent when the deal runs out after the 2028-29 season.
The Kraken brought him in on June 21, sending a 2026 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-rounder to Florida to get him. Giving up a first for a 23-year-old told you how Seattle felt about his ceiling.
Florida drafted Samoskevich 24th overall in 2021. The right-shot winger grew into an NHL regular over the past two seasons and won a Stanley Cup with the Panthers in 2025.
This past year he set career highs with 32 points, including 20 assists, across 77 games. His goal total dipped to 12 on a modest 7.5 shooting percentage. The Newtown, Connecticut native has 63 points in 156 career games, all with Florida.
Bottom-six minutes in a deep Florida lineup capped what he could do. Seattle plans to hand him a bigger role, and he already knows the room, having played with Kraken center Matty Beniers at Michigan back in 2021-22.
Now he gets the runway the Panthers never had room to give him.
