  • Read below for how the game played out without Jankowski

Mark Jankowski’s goal streak is on hold, and the Hurricanes’ win streak is over.

Jankowski was scratched shortly before puck drop Sunday with a lower-body injury, the Hurricanes announced, and Carolina lost 3-2 to the Calgary Flames at the Saddledome. It ended a seven-game winning streak for Carolina.

The injury comes one night after Jankowski scored in his sixth consecutive game. We covered that run in our story on the Jets win, and here is the goal that kept it going:

He had six goals in nine games coming in after scoring 11 in 68 games last season. Nicolas Deslauriers took his spot in the lineup and picked up an assist on the opening goal, NHL.com’s Laurence Heinen wrote.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi put Carolina ahead 1-0 at 6:09 of the second period. Matvei Gridin tied it with his first of the season at 18:30, with a wrist shot over Brandon Bussi’s glove.

Check out Gridin’s shot:

Morgan Frost put the Flames up 2-1 on the power play at 19:39 in his 400th NHL game. Jalen Chatfield answered 17 seconds later to make it 2-2 before the intermission.

Yegor Sharangovich won it at 15:32 of the third. He one-timed a cross-ice pass from Frost past Bussi for his second goal of the season. Watch the finish:

Devin Cooley made 34 saves for Calgary, which improved to 2-6-0 and won at home for the first time this season. Bussi stopped 31 for Carolina, which fell to 7-2-1 and saw its franchise-record five-game road winning streak end.

The Hurricanes were already without captain Jordan Staal, who is out one to two months with a calf tear. No timeline for Jankowski has been shared yet.
