Mark Jankowski has a goal streak going, and the Hurricanes have a win streak to match.
Jankowski scored in his sixth consecutive game Saturday as Carolina beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 at Canada Life Centre, the Hurricanes’ seventh straight win.
He tied it 1-1 on the power play at 8:19 of the second period with a shot from the low slot. That makes six goals in nine games this season, after he had 11 in 68 games last year.
Take a look at the goal that kept the streak alive:
Mark Scheifele had put Winnipeg ahead at 4:23 of the second, creating a turnover in the Carolina zone and beating Pyotr Kochetkov with a backhand.
Catch the play that started it, with Nikolaj Ehlers giving it away to his old teammate:
Alex Iafallo made it 2-1 at 10:59 after Adam Lowry stole the puck from Kochetkov, who was out of his net playing it. Jesperi Kotkaniemi tied it 2-2 at 16:50 by tipping a Shayne Gostisbehere point shot.
Ehlers then got his payback. He scored the go-ahead goal at 6:43 of the third with a slap shot from the high slot on the power play, his first of the season and it came against the team he used to play for.
Watch Ehlers’ clapper:
Kochetkov finished with 22 saves for Carolina, which improved to 7-1-1. Gostisbehere had two assists. Clay Stevenson made 34 saves for Winnipeg (4-2-2), which has lost three of four.
The Jets are also waiting on Connor Hellebuyck, whose suspension is expected to end Oct. 23.
