The Rangers have put James Reimer on waivers.
New York made the move Thursday, a day after Joonas Korpisalo stopped 34 of 37 shots in a rehab start with Hartford. If Reimer clears waivers Friday, he can go back to the Wolf Pack.
Check out our post on the move:
Reimer’s time as a Ranger was four games on the bench and one period on the ice. He signed a one-year deal last month after Korpisalo and Igor Shesterkin both went down, and the team handed him the start on Oct. 26 against the Kings.
Taylor Ward beat him on the first shot he faced, and Brandt Clarke tipped in the second. Reimer allowed three goals on eight shots before Dylan Garand took over in a 6-3 loss. Take a look at the first goal:
Garand has started every game since Shesterkin went down with a season-ending knee injury, 11 straight in all. He had a 1.85 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage through his first six games. Over the last five, those numbers are 3.50 and .877.
Korpisalo is the reason the Rangers needed the roster spot. He has been out since the first week of the season with a lower-body injury, and the rehab start in Hartford suggests his return is close.
The Rangers also placed defenseman Sean Durzi on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 26. He won’t join the four-game Pacific Division trip that starts Saturday against the Kraken. New York is 8-7-1 and sits third in the Metropolitan Division, nine points behind Carolina.
Reimer’s best work this season came in Hartford, where he stopped 35 shots in a shutout of Providence on Oct. 23. That is where he can return if no team claims him.
