The Capitals beat the Canadiens 5-4 on Wednesday night in the first NHL game Lane Hutson and Cole Hutson ever played against each other.
Alex Tuch was the difference. He scored twice, including the shorthanded goal that gave Washington its first lead of the night.
Lane got the brothers on the board first, ripping one home in the opening period to put Montreal up 2-1. Watch the goal:
Cole answered in his own way. The Capitals rookie picked up the primary assist on Jordan Kyrou’s first-period goal that had tied the game 1-1 earlier in the frame.
Tuch put Washington in front 3-2 in the second period while the Capitals were down a man. Check out the shorthanded goal:
Josh Anderson kept the Canadiens in it with two goals, the second tying the game 3-3. Justin Holl then made it 4-3 midway through the third with Alex Ovechkin and Aliaksei Protas picking up the assists, and Tuch added his second at 17:05 to make it 5-3.
Nick Suzuki cut the lead to one on the power play with 1:39 left, and Lane picked up the assist on that one. It was as close as Montreal got.
Montreal outshot Washington 29-24. Charlie Lindgren stopped 25 shots for the Capitals, while Jakob Dobes made 19 saves for the Canadiens.
Lane finished with a goal, an assist and 24:06 of ice time. Cole logged 17:07 and an assist. We covered the buildup to the matchup earlier Wednesday, and the family scorebook ended with one brother on the winning side.
