Logan O’Connor is stepping away from the Avalanche after the sudden death of his father.
Colorado announced Thursday that Myles O’Connor passed away at the age of 59. The team also said Logan will take a personal leave of absence to be with his family. No cause of death was shared, and there is no timetable for his return.
Here is the team’s statement:
The news is harder to take with the season just starting. The winger was on track to make his 2026-27 debut either Thursday in Calgary or Saturday at home against Toronto after recovering from a lower-body injury he suffered in the preseason. Hockey takes a back seat now.
Myles was an NHLer himself. New Jersey took the Calgary native in the third round of the 1985 draft, 45th overall, and he went on to captain Michigan during his senior year. He played pro hockey for years after that, including time with the Devils and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, before retiring in 1998.
Away from the game, Myles ran O’Connors, a multi-generational clothing store in Calgary that has been open since 1958.
We at Gino Hard send our condolences to Logan O’Connor, his family and everyone who knew Myles.
