The Hurricanes’ winning streak is over, and it ended in Calgary.

Yegor Sharangovich scored with 4:28 left in the third period to give the Flames a 3-2 win over Carolina on Sunday night at the Saddledome, per NHL.com. It was the first home win of the season for Calgary, which improved to 2-6-0.

Morgan Frost set it up. He sent a saucer pass across the slot and Sharangovich one-timed it into the top corner past Brandon Bussi. Watch the goal:

Carolina got on the board first. Jesperi Kotkaniemi lifted a rebound over Devin Cooley at 6:09 of the second period for a 1-0 lead.

Then the end of that period got wild. Matvei Gridin tied it at 18:30 with his first goal of the season, a wrist shot over Bussi’s glove. Frost put Calgary up 2-1 on the power play at 19:39 in his 400th NHL game. Jalen Chatfield tied it again just 17 seconds later.

Gridin’s goal drew some attention on its own. Our video of it also noted that Mikael Backlund tied Johnny Gaudreau on the Flames all-time points list with the 609th point of his career:

Cooley made 34 saves for the Flames. Bussi stopped 31 for the Hurricanes, who fell to 7-2-1 after winning seven in a row and five straight on the road, a franchise record.

Carolina also played without Mark Jankowski. He was scratched shortly before puck drop with a lower-body injury, and we have more on that here.

The Hurricanes visit Vancouver on Tuesday. The Flames host Minnesota on Thursday.
