Evander Kane is headed to Russia.
Kane’s agent, Dan Milstein, said Wednesday that the 35-year-old winger is “very close” to signing with a KHL team and will play the 2026-27 season there. Kane never found an NHL contract after free agency opened July 1.
Milstein was asked about Kane’s options and said North American offers did exist before Kane made his call.
“We had a couple of things here in North America, but in the end, Evander decided to take his talents to Russia,” Milstein said. “We’re very close to signing a deal with a KHL team. So, over the next couple of days or so, we’ll make an announcement.”

No KHL club has been named yet. Milstein only said the announcement is coming in the next few days.
The move was brewing. We reported in August that Ak Bars Kazan had shown interest, and his asking price had already dropped to the league minimum by then.
Kane spent last season with the Vancouver Canucks, scoring 13 goals and 31 points. He helped the Oilers reach back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals in 2024 and 2025 before Edmonton traded him to his hometown team.
Across 16 NHL seasons with the Thrashers, Jets, Sabres, Sharks, Oilers and Canucks, Kane played 1,001 games and put up 339 goals and 648 points. He topped 30 goals twice, with Winnipeg in 2011-12 and San Jose in 2018-19.
Whichever KHL team gets him, Kane walks into that league with 339 NHL goals and a Stanley Cup Final résumé.
