It’s common knowledge that Philly sports fans are absolutely ruthless. They proved just that on Saturday when Cutter Gauthier returned to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since forcing the Flyers to trade him last January to the Anaheim Ducks.

The Flyers faithful booed Gauthier heavily and fans even started chanting “Jamie’s better” after Jamie Drysdale, who was included in the trade, scored in the first period.

Take a look:

Gauthier’s first game against his former team couldn’t have gone worse, either. He finished no points, three shots on goal, and a -1 rating. The youngster said on Friday he was excited for this matchup and had it circled on his calendar.

Via Sportsnet:

“Obviously with all that happened, it’s definitely been a game circled on my calendar, and I’m super excited to play,” Gauthier told reporters Friday. “It’s been a lot of anticipation leading up to the game, so I’m ready to go out there and play my game.”

Flyers supporters have every right to feel a type of way about Gauthier. The organization drafted him fifth overall in the 2022 draft and it was clear from the start he never had any interest in playing for Philadelphia, even reportedly refusing to train or discuss an entry-level deal with the club.

After the trade happened a year ago, Gauthier refuted the rumors that he was unhappy with being a Flyer. Gauthier even received death threats, however, which is definitely crossing the line.

Philadelphia fans certainly got the last laugh on Saturday though, with the Flyers beating the Ducks 6-0. Gauthier has five goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances in 2024-25.
