Connor McDavid picked Toronto when a young reporter asked him for his favorite arena outside of Edmonton.

The question came as McDavid walked toward the Oilers’ team bus with a coffee in hand. The reporter, who was working with Broadcast Bub, asked, “Outside of Edmonton, what’s your favorite arena?” McDavid gave it a quick beat and answered with one word: “Toronto.”

The reporter thanked him, McDavid said “All right,” and kept walking. Watch the whole exchange:

Leafs fans will take that answer and run with it, but it fits the player. McDavid is a Newmarket, Ont. native, about 35 miles north of Scotiabank Arena. When the Oilers visit Toronto, friends and family make the drive down to watch him, as NHL.com’s Mike Zeisberger detailed after his November 2024 game there.

That night, McDavid scored a power-play goal and added an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs. The assist gave him 18 points in 11 career games at Scotiabank Arena at the time.

Toronto is not a regular stop for him, either. Edmonton’s trip in November 2024 was its only visit to the city that season.

McDavid has plenty going on in Edmonton right now. He is off to a huge start and recently became the fastest to 20 assists.

For one afternoon on a sidewalk, though, the Oilers captain gave the hometown answer.
