The Senators gave Brady Tkachuk a proper tribute, and Ottawa fans did not care.

Before the game, the team ran a video tribute and thank you on the video board for their former captain. Tkachuk gave a salute to the crowd in response and received a shower of boos in return. Watch it:

The tribute ran under a “Welcome Back” graphic on the video board. The boos kept going through the clip, and Tkachuk smiled and took it.

Tkachuk said beforehand that Ottawa was a “special place” to him and that he wasn’t taking the reaction personally. We covered the warmup boos earlier in the night.

Tkachuk spent his first eight seasons in Ottawa, five of them as captain. He requested a trade in June, and Ottawa sent him to Florida to play alongside his brother Matthew.

He answered the booing in a hurry. Tkachuk opened the scoring in the first period, and the crowd had one more thing to be mad about.
