Joel Hofer goalie goal AHL Calder Cup Playoffs

Goalie goals will never get old.

St.Louis Blues’ goalie prospect Joel Hofer scored a goal in the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs on Thursday. Hofer is a goalie for the Springfield Thunderbirds, who are facing the WBS Penguins in Round 2 of the playoffs. Game 2 was played Thursday at the Thunderdome.

With Springfield leading 4-2 late in the third period, WBS pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. With the Penguins’ net empty, Hofer put the final nail in their coffin. The 21-year-old goalie stopped the puck behind the net before shooting it down the length of the ice.

Hofer’s shot was absolutely perfect, as it traveled over all the players and went straight into the Penguins’ net. The goalie put some serious velocity on the shot so even the jumping WBS defensemen couldn’t glove down his empty-net attempt.

While the shot from Hofer was awesome, his celebration might have been even better. Hofer did a fly-by bench celebration before firing up the passionate fans in Springfield. Not only was his goal a tremendous individual accomplishment, but it also put the game out of reach for the opposition.

Hofer played an outstanding game Thursday, stopping 34 of 36 shots to help his team win by a 5-2 score. The goalie goal was just the icing on the cake after his fantastic saves in the crease. Hofer earned 1st Star of the Game for his 24-save performance and goalie goal.

Hofer has been splitting time with ex-Montreal Canadiens’ prospect Charlie Lindgren in the Springfield crease this season. In 39 starts with the Thunderbirds this season, Hofer posted a 16-12-3 record with a .905 save percentage and 2.96 GAA.

That was simply awesome, Joel Hofer. We’ll never ever get tired of seeing goalie goals.
