The Oilers may have a problem on their hands with Zach Hyman.

The Edmonton winger left Monday’s game against the Red Wings at 7:36 of the second period after Detroit defenseman Andreas Englund hit him along the boards and his head made contact with the glass. Hyman needed help getting off the ice.

Here’s the hit that sent him to the room:

Edmonton coach Mike Babcock was asked about Hyman after the game and didn’t sound optimistic. This is already the second time the forward has been hurt this season.

“He was injured before. Anytime you get injured twice, you know it’s not a good sign,” Babcock said. “Obviously, he’s a very important piece for us, and so that wasn’t fun to watch.”

Hyman missed six games after getting hurt in the season opener with an undisclosed injury. We covered his earlier injury and return when he got back in the lineup. The Oilers haven’t given an update on this one yet, so there’s no word on whether he’ll miss time.

Edmonton lost the game 4-3 in a shootout. The Oilers took a 3-2 lead on a Colton Dach deflection, but Dylan Larkin tied it for Detroit with Michal Postava pulled for the extra attacker:

Postava stopped all three shootout attempts for his first career NHL win, and Lucas Raymond scored the only shootout goal. Connor McDavid had an assist to extend his season-opening point streak to 12 games, so the offense is humming. Losing Hyman on top of that would sting.

The Oilers are 8-2-2 and have dropped two straight. Hyman’s status will be the thing to watch before their next game.
