The 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase is up and running in Windsor, and Day 1 belonged to the Americans and the Finns.
Finland jumped all over USA White on Sunday at the WFCU Centre. Jeremi Virtanen scored 22 seconds in, and by the first intermission the Finns had four goals from four different skaters. USA White never climbed back, and Finland skated off with a 4-1 win.
The nightcap was all USA Blue. Carter Sanderson took over with a hat trick, and the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect made himself impossible to ignore in a 6-1 rout of Sweden.
Ethan Wyttenbach ran the show from the middle of the ice for three assists. The Calgary Flames pick is out to prove that leaving him home a year ago was a mistake, and Daily Faceoff‘s Steven Ellis figures the Americans won’t skip him twice. Wyatt Cullen, Mikey Berchild and Brooks Rogowski also lit the lamp.
Sweden managed just one goal, off the stick of Flames prospect Theo Stockselius. Devils first-rounder Alexander Command and Golden Knights winger Jakob Ihs-Wozniak had their chances but couldn’t finish.

Every game streams on HNLive through Aug. 1, with Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland all in Windsor sorting out who belongs in the mix for the 2027 World Juniors over the holidays.
Canada’s biggest name won’t be part of it. The team left projected top pick Gavin McKenna off its showcase roster, so the Windsor crowd will have to wait a little longer to see him in red and white.
USA Blue and Finland set the early pace. Everyone else has until Aug. 1 to catch up.
