The NHL’s cutest tradition is back for year three.
Stanley Pup returns Monday, June 8, with 32 adoptable rescue dogs representing all 32 teams, and Alex Ovechkin headlines the list of players making appearances. The 90-minute special airs on truTV and HBO Max in the U.S. at 9:30 p.m. ET and on Sportsnet in Canada at 8 p.m. ET.
Here’s the league’s official announcement:
Half the fun is the roster names. This year’s lineup includes Jack and Quinn Chews, Matthew Schaefurry, Jack Eichowl, Macklin Celewienie and Seth Arfis.
Washington’s entry might have the best player card in the league. Logan Chompson, a shepherd mix named after Capitals goalie Logan Thompson, lists a chomp force of 3,280 PSI. The real Thompson will appear on the broadcast alongside Ovechkin.
They’re not the only hockey names showing up. Calder Trophy winner Matthew Schaefer, Seth Jarvis, Will Smith, Devin Cooley and Wild GM Bill Guerin all filmed appearances, while Kenan Thompson serves as a celebrity coach and Doc Emrick, Michael Strahan and Flavor Flav round out the guest list.
NHL president of content and events Steve Mayer explained what the show means to the league:
“This event has quickly become a fan-favorite tradition, blending the competitive spirit of the NHL with the mission of finding homes for animals in need. When Patrick Kanine, Cole Pawfield, Quinn Chews and others find families because of Stanley Pup, we know that this show has true meaning.”
Division winners advance to a final for the right to eat out of the Stanley Pup, a pooch-sized version of the real trophy. New this year, The Dogist joins the broadcast to check in on three dogs adopted from past editions.

Brandywine Valley SPCA provided the pups, and most of this year’s roster has already been adopted, Chompson included. The 2026 video hits the league’s YouTube channel on June 9 and NHL Network on June 10, while the real Stanley Cup Final rolls on between Vegas and Carolina.
