The Sharks got their first look at Ivar Stenberg on Saturday night, and he needed 25 seconds to make it count.
San Jose’s No. 2 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft scored twice in that span in the third period of an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings at the Rookie Faceoff, per NHL.com.
A redirection made it 6-1. Twenty-five seconds later he one-timed a backhand feed from Igor Chernyshov at 11:36 to finish a tic-tac-toe passing play.

Stenberg was asked afterward what the night felt like.
“It was fun. First (game) in a long time, but super fun. (Misa and Chernyshov are) really good players.”

He skated between Michael Misa, the second pick in 2025, and Chernyshov, who put up 19 points in 28 NHL games last season. Stenberg turns 19 on Sept. 30.
Last season he played on the wider European sheet, collecting 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 43 games with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League.
Adjusting to the narrower North American rink came up when he spoke after the game.
“It’s fun, but yeah, it’s different. I’ve got to learn as quickly as possible. Just getting stronger (and) faster (will help me adjust). Work on everything. Shoot the puck. I’ve been working the whole summer.”
John McCarthy, who ran the San Jose bench Saturday, was asked how the teenager handled his first game on this side of the ocean.
“It’s an adjustment, right? It’s an adjustment for him coming over here, and I thought he handled himself well. Obviously, they were dynamic off the rush; like, the one goal was pretty impressive. You know the skill comes through in times like that.”
Plenty of San Jose prospects filled the sheet. Carson Wetsch finished with two goals and two assists, Andre Gasseau had two and one, and 7-foot-1 Alexander Karmanov dropped the gloves in the same game.
Camp opens Thursday, and the Sharks start the regular season against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 1. Stenberg wants to be in the lineup for the opener.
